HOW TO MOW A LAWN

lawn irrigation

Mowing represents an important and regular step which has two main functions. First it keeps up the appropriate form of a lawn and secondly it is an excellent weed fighting method. Many lawn owners know that many types of weeds do not survive while mowing. In addition, mowing promotes vegetative development of plants. Grass begins to cluster on the surface of the soil, forming new sprouts. In the issue there a dense turf develops which spreads out by rhizomes.

The best period for grass mowing is considered from the middle of spring till the middle of autumn. The frequency of this procedure depends on the sorts of planted grass, weather conditions and time of the year. You should mow the lawn more frequently by steady rains and at the beginning of autumn. It is advisable to mow the lawn once a week; however every 2 weeks will do as well.

It is noteworthy the grass mowing does not present any difficulty for the lawn owners. The main thing is purchase a good lawnmower and get familiar with the application instructions very properly. There are several kinds of lawnmowers such as a reel lawnmower, gas or electric lawnmowers. The appropriate lawnmower is chosen depending on the size of the lawn. If it is less than 500 square feet, give preference to a reel lawnmower. If you are the owner of a larger lawn, consider powered lawnmowers, as they are faster. Before mowing, make certain that your lawnmower operates well. You can add some oil to the moving parts of a new lawnmower, if you find them tight. If it is one year old and more, do not forget to sharpen the blades.

Next you have to decide on the wheel height. Usually, during warm times of the year, the height of cutting makes up from ? to 2 inches. During cool seasons, mow bluegrass and fescue at the height of 2-3 inches. You can raise or lower the wheels of your lawnmower to set the necessary height for grass mowing. Mow the lawn when the grass is dry. Thus the wheels will not leave traces and the lawnmower will not be clogged with moist grass. Clear the lawn from objects that could get in the lawnmower blades and correspondingly this may lead to its breakdown. The obstacles might also fly out of the blades and hurt someone who is near to you. Do not allow children to play on the lawn or ride the lawnmower. Safety is first. You can remove the obstacles from the lawn such as branches, stones, small toys, etc, by using a rake. Mark the pipes to prevent running into them accidentally. Cut the grass in a pattern. Ride the lawnmower back and forth. Avoid going in a spiral. Do not go too slowly, as the blades might be clogged with grass. When you reach a flowerbed, first cut the grass in one direction and then go the other direction. After finishing the mowing gather clippings by using a rake. Clean the lawnmower blades according to the machine directions. You can add some oil to the moving parts in order to prevent rusting.
